The Passover of the Lord (Exodus 12:1-27)

February 7, 2016 Speaker: Rev. Dave Dorst Series: Exodus - The Glory of the Lord

Topic: Sermons Passage: Exodus 12:1–27

The Bible is filled with what seems like very strange instructions from the Lord to His people: if you want to take down the walls of a city, just march around it for 7 days and blow trumpets. Or if you want to defeat a vast army, you’ll need to whittle down your army from 32,000 to just 300. How about this one? There’s an angel of death coming through town and the only way to avoid him coming to your house is to eat dinner and paint some of the blood from the meat on your doorframe. Say what?

Our study of Exodus has brought us through 9 plagues that God sent on the land of Egypt, and in Exodus 12 it’s clear that the 10th one is coming and it’s going to be the worst one yet, the one that will force Pharaoh’s hand. But the Israelites have some work to do and they’re given very detailed instructions for an evening meal, a week-long feast, and the method of protecting their families. It’s a rich chapter that connects to the meal that we participate in every month, and helps us understand the grounds and the assurance of our salvation better. I didn’t get to preach this sermon two weeks ago, so I’m looking forward to preaching it to you this Sunday. See you then. -Dave
