Cross Words: Marry (1 Corinthians 7:1-16)

November 5, 2017 Speaker: Dr. David Silvernail Series: Cross Words - A Series on 1 Corinthians

Topic: Sermons Passage: 1 Corinthians 7:1–16

This week we’re coming to a passage that’s both easy and hard.  Of course, it’s about a subject that’s both easy and hard.  Coming right off the heels of a couple of difficult passages about immorality, the Apostle Paul immediately goes into teaching about marriage.  He doesn’t spend much time on what marriage is as much as he’s teaching on what marriage can and cannot do.  And what it can do is beautiful.  And what it cannot do is the part that makes it hard.  Of course, as always, he brings us Gospel Hope by showing us how we can move from what’s hard to what’s beautiful.  And yes, it involves refocusing everyone on Jesus.  You see, the beautiful parts of our lives, and the hard parts of our lives, including our marriages (both present and future) are only brought to a place of faith, hope, and love by the Gospel of Christ.  And since this series is entitled “Cross Words,” this week’s key word is “Marry.”  But it might be helpful to remember that marriage is not just about us, but is intended to point us forward to something so much better.  What’s that?  Well, you’ll have to come Sunday to find out.  See you then, Dr. Dave

We’ll be celebrating the Lord’s Supper this Sunday, and then we’ll enjoy the Fall Festival at Foxridge Park in Leesburg in the afternoon (starting at 3 pm).  Should be a great day!
