Heart Prep for Sunday, February 19th

This week we’re continuing our new sermon series on “A Man Called Job.” And Sunday we’ll be in Job, chapter 3, which gives us a very personal look at a man who is grappling with many of the big questions of life — but after the last two weeks of having his life turned completely upside down, he starts to ask the “Why” questions.  Why do sad things happen to me?  Why are there so many things in life that seem to be so unfair? Why am I even alive?

Job forces us to watch him in the depths of despair and darkness.  His life has been shattered.  And so he begins a long lament.  And it is brutally honest.  And that is a lesson we need to learn for our own times of despair and darkness.  How will we react?  What will we say?  And have we learned how to lament our own situation before a sovereign God?

The ability to honestly lament will be one of the key lessons of the Book of Job.  Remember … This is divinely inspired resiliency training for believers.  Is your faith in God resilient and enduring even in those seasons when you’re forced to face times of gloom and deep darkness, anguish and anger?   Job forces the real you to relate to the real God.  And while that will surely be hard, it will just as surely be good.  And so my prayer for this series continues to be that it will give you a resilient faith.  Let’s pray for that together.  I’ll see you Sunday, Dr. Dave
