PHPC outreach opportunity!
We are delighted to announce that Potomac Hills Presbyterian Church will be participating in the "Back Pack Buddies" program this coming school year.
We will be partnering with Tolbert Elementary School, located right next door to Harper Park Middle School. This will be a wonderful ministry for PHPC to serve the students of our church neighborhood.
What is Back Pack Buddies??
Last school year, 1 in 6 Loudoun County school children qualified for free or reduced-price school lunches. What happens to these children when they go home for the weekend? "Back Pack Buddies" (BPB) is a program model created by Feeding America to provide food for the weekend to elementary school children who are in need. The Backpack Buddies Team at Tolbert is providing food to 30 students at their school. The bags are packed with 6 meals and 2 snacks, plus juice and shelf milk for the child to take home for the weekend.
How can you participate??
~ Food donations (see preferred items list)
~ Grocery store gift card
~ Financial contribution
~ Packing bags (Wed. at Tolbert, 1-3pm)
~ Storing and/or delivering food to the school
This is spearheaded by the "women's ministries",
but anyone can participate in this - it is a great way for our kids to be involved with helping other students in the county who are less fortunate than us.
A tub will be placed at church each week for donations.
