We have the privilege this week of hearing from one of our Ruling Elders, Dave Kamienski (aka "Coach K"), preaching this week's sermon on Matthew 26:31-46. The passage covers Jesus' prediction of Peter's denials, His sorrow in the Garden, and His rebuke of the sleeping disciples. It's a great passage to put ourselves in the middle of an intense situation: how would you feel if you knew you were about to be arrested and killed, and the majority of your close friends would disappoint and abandon you? We get a great picture of God in the flesh preparing for His upcoming death, with a full emphasis on both His humanity and His divinity.
I hope you are getting in all the activities and plans that you made for this summer. For the students and teachers, you've got less than 3 weeks to fit everything in! I'd love to remind everyone that NOW is a great time to spend some time with Dave and Joanne Silvernail. Just because Dr. Dave is on sabbatical doesn't mean you need to avoid him or wait until he's off sabbatical to see him. Of course we don't want to trouble him with church business or counseling, but I know that they would love to be invited to social events and meals, or even just a friendly phone call checking up. They are planning to spend the summer travelling and attending other churches, but will be back at our church when school starts (though the sabbatical runs through the end of 2014).
And remember that our Sunday School classes are fully staffed and running ALL through the summer. The teachers work very hard to prepare their lessons, and I know that my family and I always benefit from attending and participating. When you're in town, please make Sunday School a priority and dive into the Scriptures with us.
